KNIVES DONE RIGHT.®
Introducing the ACE Farley Slipjoint in Brass.
The slipjoint may be the most ubiquitous type of pocketknife ever. Your father probably carried one. Your grandfather almost certainly carried one. It's very likely that your mother even had one rattling around in her purse. So when we began to design our take on the slipjoint, we incorporated our collective feelings of responsibility to prior generations of slipjoint users to get it right - to produce a simple, yet beautiful non-locking folder that would be sure to please.
Lines are important. Especially to Danish designers. So the "lines" or shape of the Farley were designed to evoke an appreciation for finer things and pride of ownership as it catches your attention while sitting on your desk. Think 1960s Concept Car meets the Scandinavian classic knife.
Function is important. Especially to Danish knife designers. So the Farley was designed with a stop pin on the close side to prevent the blade from touching the spring if closed hard. The spring strength was tested on several sample iterations until the team felt it was just right. A strong steel wire clip will hold the knife securely in pocket, and can be moved to the opposite scale for the lefties among us.
Details are important. Always at GiantMouse. So the blade and spring on the Farley were designed with radiused spines. To allow for optimal grip when pulling the knife from your pocket, we machined "cut-outs" on the scales on each side of the jimping. And the jimping itself is a detail we are proud of, and know will be pleasing to both sight and touch.
Names are important. You know this already if you own other GiantMouse knives. The Farley was named after one of our favorite restaurant bars, found at Cavallo Point in Sausalito, California. Located at the Northern base of the Golden Gate Bridge. Cavallo Point was home to Fort Baker, a 1905 U.S. Army post located immediately north of the Golden Gate Bridge. The grounds surrounding the Farley Bar hold over 25 historic army buildings clustered around a main parade ground, and a sheltered harbor protected by a jetty providing for a perspective of the iconic Golden Gate Bridge that you'll rarely see. We initially went for the view. We went back again and again for the live music, amazing oysters and draft beers.
